The Manager's Quirky Personality Makes It All the More Fun! USHINABE Morinomiya – Beef Hotpot Restaurant (Updated October 2019)
Good morning!
Today’s feature is an all-you-can-eat beef hotpot restaurant.
Restaurant Name: USHINABE Morinomiya
Location: 1-6-18 Morinomiya Chuo, Chuo-ku, Osaka, Japan
Menu Item: All-you-can-eat beef hotpot + unlimited oolong tea (with dessert)
Price: ¥2,000
If you head south along the Osaka Loop Line from Nishi-Kujo, you’ll find this restaurant located roughly midway between two stations.
I opted for the “All-you-can-eat beef hotpot + unlimited oolong tea” option!
According to the owner, this is the only restaurant in the industry that offers beef hotpot like this! (In other words, it's an original menu.)
There’s also an option for all-you-can-drink alcohol. However, since drinking alcohol drastically reduces how much food you can consume, I stuck to soft drinks. (A group of female college students at a nearby table were having a blast with the booze, though, so that might be a fun option too!)
The hotpot comes with three types of meat: beef, pork, and chicken — but the beef is by far the most recommended!
In terms of cooking, the manager taught us that you start by layering meat and vegetables in a relatively flat iron pot. As the food starts to cook and the pot thickens, you need to stir it to prevent burning. Once the vegetables soften, it’s ready to eat. (The style is somewhat similar to how you cook monjayaki.)
My impression? It’s a place full of things to comment on, but the taste is amazing!
And above all — super cheap!
If you do the math, ordering two pots per person more than pays for itself.
Now, about the quirks: the manager is quite the character.
For example, if you keep ordering beef, he’ll start persistently recommending the chicken instead — in a charming, unfiltered Osaka-style way that actually adds to the experience.
Also, the more meat you order, the longer it takes for each pot to come out.
But — here's the twist — you’re not allowed to order additional meat while you're still eating the current pot (lol). He’ll say things like, “No need to rush, just take it easy~” — kindly but firmly. (Yes, it made me want to cry a little.)
All in all, it might take a bit of mental gymnastics to convince yourself that the manager is just looking out for your health — but that’s part of what makes this place unique.
(For the record, this was my third visit!)
Definitely worth trying at least once!
